Starting a side hustle as a nurse can be challenging. From juggling a full time nursing job, to being a mom 24/7 to two toddlers, how can someone even have a successful six figure side hustle? In this post, I will break down the steps on how I was able to start a six figure side hustle while working full time.
I knew early on that I’ve always wanted to do more than just “being a nurse” (not saying you should too), but as a multi-passionate individual, I have always dreamed of helping people through my creativity. I always liked writing and even though my parents discouraged me to pursue that as a career, it did not stop me from creating this blog Nursing Flowsheet.
Initially, I was only doing it as an outlet for my creativity and to help teach myself about money. Then, two years ago, I realize that I can actually turn this into a thriving business.
Let’s break down how I was able to do it.
Step 1: Start With What You Know
Nurses are experts in more areas than we give ourselves credit for. In order to monetize your skills or hobby, you have to be known to be an expert at something in order to “sell it”.
Think about it:
- Have you mastered time management on night shift?
- Are you the go-to preceptor on your unit?
- Have you overcome burnout and learned how to care for yourself again?
- Did you figure out how to invest, pay off debt, or build wealth as a nurse?
All of these are valuable, marketable skills.
And people are out there searching for answers—answers you already hold. Those people are your “ideal customers or clients” and it’s very important to have them in mind whenever you are creating content or thinking of your product/offer.
Step 2: Package It Into a Digital Product or Service
Now that you know what you want to share, the next step is to turn it into a product or offer.
Some ideas:
- Create a mini course or workshop (like how I teach nurses to invest in “Employ Your Money“)
- Offer coaching or mentoring to new grads
- Design a digital download, template, or resource
- Start a membership or community
The key is to solve a specific problem for a specific group of people—just like we do in nursing every day.
Step 3: Use the Right Tools (This is HUGE)
Here’s where most nurses get stuck:
They overthink the tech. Or they waste time piecing together platforms that don’t talk to each other.
I made a mistake of overcomplicating things and focusing so much on my website design. KEEP IT SIMPLE.
I have switched different platforms to host my product and eventually decided on picking Kajabi. It’s an all-in-one platform that powers my entire business. I was very hesitant to pay the fees initially, because, I wasn’t even making any money! And this is normal reaction to have if you’re starting out in your business.
You have to invest money to make more money.
Right now, kajabi is offering a crazy deal: 3 months for just $99. 🤯 (I usually pay over $200 a month for this platform!)
Kajabi lets you:
✅ Build a beautiful website
✅ Host and sell your course or offer
✅ Send emails and build automations
✅ Accept payments securely
✅ Keep everything in ONE place
No tech overwhelm. No need to be a web designer. (I design everything in my website)
Just you turning your nursing expertise into real income. In the last year, this is how much I have made in my “side business”

Step 4: Launch Before You’re “Ready”
Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. So many nurse entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs in general don’t start because they want everything to be perfect. You do not need to have it all figured out. Just start.
Build your outline.
Set a launch date.
Create a simple offer and get it in front of your people.
(Your fellow nurses need what you’ve got.) Trust me, you have something that the world needs!
And remember: your first product doesn’t need to make six figures.
It just needs to show you what’s possible. My first launch, I made close to $10,000 and my mind was blown!
Step 5: Keep Learning, Keep Showing Up
Business, like nursing, is a skill. And every step forward builds your confidence and your income. A lot of nurses message me and ask me “How did you become so successful?!” ” How did you do this?!”
I didn’t build Nursing Flowsheet overnight.
But with the right tools and mindset, I turned my passion into profit—and you can too. I also want to be transparent and tell you that I don’t have successful launches all the time. Sometimes, it fails. And it’s okay. This is where you iterate and learn.
You Don’t Need Another Degree to start a six figure side hustle as a nurse.
You need a platform.
You need a plan.
And you need to believe that you can do this too!
So if you’ve been waiting for a sign…
This is it.
